Volume is a poor guide to weight. A yard of drain rock and a yard of garden soil take up the same space and weigh very differently, which is how people end up over their rating without realising. Pick your material and your vehicle, and we will show you roughly what a vehicle of that type takes per trip.
The number that matters
Your rating beats our estimate.
What we show here is a typical figure for that class of vehicle, worked out from a conservative payload and a safe fill height, then rounded down. It is a starting point, not a reading of your truck.
The sticker inside the driver's door gives the payload for your exact vehicle, including its options. That number governs, not ours.
A trailer is rated separately from the truck towing it, and the hitch has a rating too. The lowest of the three is your real ceiling.
The same yard of soil can be considerably heavier after rain. If the pile has been sitting in the weather, order to the lower end.
